What to Expect During a Reiki Session
Walking into a Reiki session should feel simple, welcoming, and pressure-free, especially if it’s your first time. When you arrive, we begin with a thoughtful check-in. This is a space for you to share what you’re coming in with, whether that is stress, grief, fatigue, feeling stuck, trouble sleeping, or simply a desire to feel more grounded. I usually offer a longer, supportive check-in so we can understand the full picture of what you are moving through. If you prefer less conversation that day, we can absolutely keep it brief. You never need the perfect reason to book, and you are always welcome exactly as you are.
Next comes settling in. You will remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a massage table. Before we begin, I gently guide you through a few slow breaths to help your body shift out of doing mode and into rest. I work hands-on always with care and respect. You are in control of your experience at all times. If you ever need to adjust your position, pause, or communicate anything during the session, you are welcome to do so.
The session itself is quiet, gentle, and deeply restorative. I begin by setting an intention and then move through a series of hands-on placements, typically around the head, shoulders, torso, and move to the hips, knees, and feet. You do not need to do anything or try to relax in a certain way. Your only role is to receive. People experience Reiki differently. Some feel warmth, tingling, heaviness, lightness, deep calm, emotional release, or mental quiet. Some drift into sleep. Others feel very subtle sensations, or not much in the moment but notice shifts later. All of this is completely normal. Reiki is not about forcing an outcome, it is about allowing your system to settle and rebalance in the way it needs.
As the session closes, I gently guide you back and help you ground before you sit up, since it is common to feel very relaxed or pleasantly quiet. We then take a few moments to reflect. I may share what I noticed during the session and invite you to share anything you experienced. Aftercare is simple and supportive, such as drinking water, moving gently, journaling, or observing your sleep, mood, and stress levels over the next 72 hours. A Reiki session often feels like a reset. Sometimes the shift is immediate, and sometimes it unfolds gradually, like your body and soul are slowly integrating the deep exhale they have been needing.
